Reflections on an asteroid

NASA Analysis: Earth Is Safe From Asteroid Apophis for 100-Plus Years

a view of earth from space

There was a chance an asteroid,

Apophis is its name,

Was going to make us paranoid

And Earth far from the same.

But astrophysicists concur

We’re fine at least for now

I hope they’re right; I’d much prefer

To bid Apophis, “Ciao”.

  • I'd prefer that Apophis didn't pop us, too! Thanks!

  • In reply to Margaret H. Laing:

Me, too! And it still may. In the far, far, distant future.

  • Apophis was an evil force in the Egyptian religion. He stalked the sun god Ra, forever trying to pop him, as Margaret would say.

  • In reply to jnorto:

Its name makes sense then. Ra can bask in safety. Thanks, jnorto for the insight.

  • Wonderful post, AW. Thank you!
Why did they call it Apophis? Do you any of you know?

  • In reply to Weather Girl:

jnorto, WG, anticipated your query. Thanks, my friend.
