“Some [black Brits] expressed relief that Markle (whose mother is African-American) was finally out of the toxic atmosphere in which she’d been trapped. They wondered how she had stood it for so long. ‘Nobody should tolerate bullying and abusive behavior because of the color of their skin,’ Sanaa Edness, an immigrant from the Caribbean to Britain told the New York Times. Edness added that she’d experienced similar racism herself.” [inc.com]
When Meghan Markle married Harry
It made the Royals very wary.
She wasn’t British to begin with
And too beneath them to be kin with.
She had charisma, charm, and grace
But none of these outweighed her race.
And now like drips out of a spigot
Flows venom out of every bigot.
The Queen is not amused at all
To hear the two may have the gall
To live outside her circle married.
But don’t blame them. Blame those who harried.

The National Enquirer said that Her Majesty was also going to cut off Andrew
And also that Diana did someone other than Harry's putative father screw.
I suppose one can credit either affair
Not that I much care.
Nice verse, Jack. I like your Ogden-Nash-like second line. I couldn't care too about the Royals. But Harry seems to be more than show, more than a parasite on the nation's treasury. At least I hope so.
I put the royal couple in the same category as the Kardashians; public figures of no observable talent or skill.
As Queen Victoria (or Victoria on Masterpiece) demonstrated, the only skills they need are to breed and live on the dole, the latter of which underlies the Harry and Andrew reports.
At least the Kardashians are not on the dole.
Your last line is a good example of damning with faint praise.
As to Queen Victorian, one of her, quite famous, biographers, Lytton Strachey, would , if alive, have disagreed about your assessment, although it is true on both counts. .
And I don't think the K's will ever have an Age or Era named after them.
I don't know that we can say there will be no Age of the Ks. I think they may be associated with their fellow illusionist Donald Trump in defining the malaise and intellectual degradation of the first quarter of the 21st Century.
And keep in mind that Prince Harry is only sixth in line to the royal throne. It is not likely that any Age or Era will be named after him.
There was some other PBS documentary that she enjoyed the conception, but not the froggy things that came out 9 months later, but her viewpoint changed after Prince Albert croaked. One source.
If put in the same category, it would amount to a vast upgrade for the shallow and abysmally trivial K's. Harry deserves better than such a minimalist association. He seems to have unquestionable integrity with admirable social consciousness. I think he has good instincts, and I hope these will take center stage in his life.
Thanks for an interesting assessment. I agree that Harry seems to have good instincts -- and self-preservation may well be among them. I hope so.
