To better cut grass overgrown,

Budding* licensed his invention:

A machine for the mown.

*Edwin Budding who got the idea for a lawn mower from the way woolen cloth was cross-cut.  May 18, 1830, was actually the day Budding signed an agreement to manufacture his mower with a local engineer, John Ferrabee. They formed a partnership and in Stroud,England, made lawn mowers with cast-iron gears to power the blades.
