Craven Governor Rauner panders to xenophobic fears

“Gov. Bruce Rauner on Monday said Illinois will temporarily suspend accepting Syrian refugees following deadly attacks in Paris last week.” [nbcchicago.com]

Our governor  has issued the  curious orders

To stop any refugees crossing our borders.

How misguided is he?

For  it says “Liberty”

On our nickels and dimes and our  pennies and quarters.

  • Depends on where the Republican governors are headed. If it is like a couple of Canadian provincial premiers said "... until they are properly screened," I'm o.k. with that, but that hasn't been said to my knowledge.

There's also the question (brought up in the Arizona cases) about what real authority governors have over immigration, but I'm sure Dennis Byrne can give you a fallacious legal opinion of that.

  • Redux: The Sec. of H.S., the Directors of the FBI and Nat. Intel said we cannot vet the Syrian Refugees.

Reported that 8 ISIS suspects detained in Turkey pretending to be Syrian refugees and that one can buy a phony passport for $250. Shocker.

It appears top Democrats Schummer, Feinstein an Manchin are Xeno' as well. Btw, they're asking for a pause not a permanent dome. Can we show some common sense please.

"...Give me your tired, your poor
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

  • In reply to Aquinas wired:

Doesn't explain whether Emma contemplated terrorists infiltrating their ranks. After all, the Statue of Liberty came from France.

  • In reply to Aquinas wired:

A terrorist assassinated President McKinley. There had been a wave of terrorism in Europe in the latter 19th century. And World War I was ignited by the murder of the Archduke Ferdinand.

  • In reply to Aquinas wired:

So, I guess we should encourage it. Too bad the woman in France blew herself up so thoroughly that she won't be one of Jihad John's 72 virgins.

  • Breaking News: 5 Syrian refugees detained in Hondurus with fake Greek passports.

In others news: Saganaki party canceled at the house of Aquinas Wired till further notice...

  • In reply to 4zen:

Darn, does that mean I now have to go to Mykonos? And has the Niles fire marshal been notified?

  • In reply to jack:

    Hee hee.

  • Neil Steinberg in today's Sun-Times: So don't blame Rauner, a plutocrat with nine homes and a heart the size of a gumball. We elected him, let's not get all weepy now that he behaves in a manner completely consistent with the man he has always claimed to be."

  • Steinberg, named one of the top ten most left biased American journalists wouldn't pass up a chance to politicized against a Republican to save his mothers eyes.

30 other governors and the top Dems I mentioned are calling for a pause till we know more. Sounds prudent.
