Senator Kirk shows his sexist side

That his mike was on Kirk didn’t know

When he used the pejorative “Ho”.

He’s embarrassed of course

And replete with remorse

And he won’t use the term anymo’.

  • Maybe he was trying to cut into Tammy Duckworth's vote in Englewood and Auburn-Gresham, as he made a reference to the south side, and maybe Kirk is from the south side of Highland Park.

However, I am starting to agree with the view that liberals no longer have any use for the First Amendment, as typified by the aldercreature who thinks he can block a block party over the use of the word "Chirac." This is similar political correctness, with no effect on policy. Or, maybe like Fioretti (over Felony Franks), alderman take an oath to violate the Constitution, and basically nobody calls them on that.

  • In reply to jack:

Just having read some disjointed commentary on Seinfeld making the above point brought me to today's Pearls Before Swine.

  • In reply to jack:

But I see that the alderman now has made a public spectacle of signing the permit, but not for the reason he should have, but that the neighbors wanted the block party.

  • In reply to jack:

Jack, I don't know what the First Amendment has to do with any of this. We all have a First Amendment right to shout "Sieg Heil!" Still, voters might legitimately question whether we were right for the United States Senate after doing it.

  • In reply to jnorto:

Voters can choose anyone they want. However, this hubbub is over something someone said, rather than some policy issue such as whether the proposed trade agreement will further decimate Illinois industry. If you want your vote based on something that was pointed out in a comic yesterday and by a comic two days ago, and think Tammy Duckworth is preferable just for that reason, that's your choice, but it is penalizing someone only on account of expression, which is a First Amendment issue.

  • In reply to jack:

On the contrary, Kirk's demeaning offhanded remark indicates his opinion of women and is sufficient reason to consider him unfit for public service.

  • In reply to Aquinas wired:

I thought it was demeaning to black people, of which I apparently now am since Friday.
So. basically, except for Elizabeth Warren, who is fit for public service in your view?

  • Hot mics are something you would think the Senator would be aware of. What a dumb comment to make let alone in front of a microphone.

  • In reply to Kathy Mathews:

The stroke may have given him a senior moment, in which case should I accuse you of discrimination against the disabled?

  • hey Aaron ........wait up!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's see, Joe Biden gropes a reporter on camera, no one cares, he gropes the wife of the Secretary of Defense, no one cares, he tries to kiss the young daughter of a senator, no one cares, but Kirk says something stupid, and it is a huge deal.

  • In reply to Wayne Driscoll:

I certainly can't figure out why the Tribune web site has 6 articles on this (based on a search for the past 4 days), plus the consensus that Kirk is now dead meat, about 15 months before the election.

  • In reply to Wayne Driscoll:

I also see from today's Tribune that, based on the story on the head of the Spokane NAACP, I am now black and should not have ridden my Homies on Chicago Now, such as the Real West Side guy.

Apparently, I am also supposed to care about Heather Mack's trust fund and infant.
