Today’s the birthday of Pete Dye.
Designed many courses where pro golfers vie.
Aesthetically pleasing they are to the eye,
Where duffers and golf balls can mutually lie.

|Whistling Straits (Wisconsin)
|The site of the 2004 and 2010 PGA Championships, the Straits looks like it was airlifted from Ireland. Remarkably, Dye sculpted the rugged walking-only course along a two-mile stretch of Lake Michigan from a flat landscape that was a former airstrip. Owner Herb Kohler was walking the site one blustery day during construction and felt like the wind whistled, giving the course its name.|
