McHenry Co.: Bid to Place Franklin on Ballot Fails

-By Warner Todd Huston

We’ve reported on the effort to get Tonya Franklin placed on the Nov. ballot to face Dem. House Rep. Jack Franks (63rd District). Well, that effort has officially fizzled.

The final word is that the McHenry County GOP is more than happy to allow Democrat Franks to run for a fourth term unopposed. To me this violates the one true job that a political party has: to actually put up candidates for office. If a party doesn’t even bother to slate a candidate for office, what good are they?

A meeting was called this past weekend to try and get the county committeemen to support putting Franklin on the ballot to face Franks in Novmnber. 62 of the 155 elected committeemen were need for a quorum, but only 38 showed up.

McHenry Co. GOP Chairman Mike Tyron actually showed up himself despite having sent threatening emails to his committeemen warning them not to attend.
