Sen. Jacobs Votes NO On Pension Reform!

From the Albracht for Senate campaign…

For too long the Democrat controlled Senate has used pension “sweeteners” to woo state government employees. The bait and switch policy of underfunding pensions while distracting the government union’s attention by providing additional compensation has now come home with a vengeance. Both sides of the aisle realize that there are consequences for past, present and future actions with respect to Illinois pensions. The actions of the past, both Democrat and Republican, have produced a catastrophic financial future for Illinois. Serious steps must be taken in the arena of pension reform.

On Thursday, May 3rd, 2012 the Illinois Senate took a bold and decisive bipartisan move to ensure politics and pension benefits are not intertwined. The Senate approved House Joint Resolution Constitution Amendment 49. HJRCA 49 will require a three-fifths majority vote to pass any bill that increases pension benefits for public employees.

This Illinois Constitutional Amendment passed 51-2. Senator Mike Jacobs voted NO. Jacobs decided it was better politically to curry favor with Illinois government union leadership then to cast a vote for the future welfare of the vast majority of the constituents of the 36th District. HJRCA 49 is a microcosm of what is wrong with our State and what we can do to fix it. 51 Senators started Illinois on the right path to reform and stability while Jacobs believes things are just fine the way they are. Illinois needs courage, integrity and leadership not more “business as usual”.

Bill Albracht, Candidate for the IL Senate 36th District. This time I’m fighting for you.
