Congressman Kinzinger Pleased with News of No Air Force Retribution for F-22 Pilots who Stepped Forward

From the office of Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R, Illinois 11th District)…

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL),a military pilot in the Air National Guard, today issued the following statement upon conclusion of the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services meeting on the Subcommittee on Airland in which Lieutenant General Janet Wolfenbarger said no retaliation will be taken against the two military pilots who expressed safety concerns over the F-22:

“I am extremely pleased to hear from Lieutenant General Janet Wolfenbarger that the Air Force will treat Major Jeremy Gordon and Captain Josh Wilson as whistle blowers and that no retribution will be taken against them as a result of their decision to step forward and express concerns over the F-22 program.

“Now is the time to press ahead toward the ultimate goal, which is to improve the F-22 program while continuing to ensure that pilots who feel uncomfortable flying the F-22 do not lose their wings.

“Unfortunately while working toward this goal, we have experienced push back on the numberof items we have requested from the Air Force. In some cases they claim executive privilege while in other cases they claim the studies are proprietary. We are preparing to make the request again and for a few more items.

“Whether the Air Force chooses to comply or not, we need to see their response to inwriting so we can figure out what the next step will be toward ultimately strengthening the F-22 program and protecting our military pilots.”
