WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Robert J. Dold (IL-10) presented the Congressional Award Silver Medal to Nicholas Olivia of Northbrook. Nicholas was awarded the medal as part of her achievements through The Congressional Award Program.
“I want to congratulate Nicholas for this important accomplishment,” said Dold. “Nicholas continues to excel at academics, athletics and community service. He traveled by himself to Spain to put his language skills to the test and was a finalist in the 10th District Congressional Leadership Awards for his local conservation efforts. Nicholas is a role-model and should be congratulated for all his achievements.”
Nicholas is an Eagle Scout and has worked to help the environment right here in Northbrook. He built a fence at Northbrook’s Stonegate Park to encourage conservation and was recently chosen as one of the top-10 Friends of the Environment in the 10th Congressional District’s Community Leaders award. As part of the public service requirement, Nicholas worked to protect the environment and bring awareness to alternative forms of energy. He installed 8 solar light devices on flagpoles throughout parks in Northbrook. As part of the personal development requirement, Nicholas worked to earn the Pope Pius XII religious award and also worked to earn an open water scuba diving certificate. As part of the physical activity requirement, Nicholas was able to increase his ability to bench press and increase his chin-ups. And as part of the exploration requirement, Nicholas traveled to Spain by himself and applied his Spanish classes he took at Glenbrook North High School.
