Hultgren Questions Secretary Chu Regarding Obama Cuts To FermiLab

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren (IL-14) today released the following statement after questioning Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu regarding the Obama Administration’s priorities in scientific research.

“I was deeply disappointed by Secretary Chu’s answers regarding President Obama’s commitment, or lack thereof, to fundamental science research,” said Hultgren, a member of the Science, Space and Technology Committee. “The President’s budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2013 is a political document that sacrifices long-term scientific seed corn at the expense of his dreams of green industry; in the case of Solyndra, we saw all too clearly what happened when those dreams met reality. As we proceed through the appropriations process, I will work hard with my colleagues from both sides of the aisle to maintain our nation’s investment in fundamental scientific research.”
