From the Tom Smithburg for 42nd Ward Committeeman…

CHICAGO, IL – Former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar today announced that he has endorsed Tom Smithburg for 42nd Ward Republican Committeeman.

“I have known Tom and his family for many years, and they have always been stalwart Republicans and passionate civic leaders,” said Edgar, who was Governor of Illinois from 1991-1999. “If there is anyone I would trust to bring leadership, unity, and energy to the Republican Party in Chicago, it’s Tom Smithburg. I am pleased to endorse him, and will provide my assistance in his election as well as his efforts to once again make Republicans competitive in the City of Chicago.”

“This is a huge honor, and one that I do not take lightly,” said Smithburg of being endorsed by the former Governor. “I am motivated by this endorsement and hopeful that this exciting news will inspire our team as we race towards the finish line on March 20th. Even more importantly, I hope it will inspire our team to work tirelessly after Election Day to re-energize the Party in Chicago and bring about the same level of success for Republicans in the city that Governor Edgar was able to achieve in his elections.”

Smithburg has received a number of high-profile endorsements in his race for 42nd Ward Republican Committeeman, including endorsements by Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady, State Senator and former Republican Gubernatorial Nominee Bill Brady, Illinois House Minority Leader Tom Cross, Chicago Young Republicans President Angel Garcia, 42nd Ward Republican Organization President Christine Svenson, and Illinois College Republican Federation Chairman Mick Paskiewicz.

Once elected, Smithburg plans to work to unify the Republican Party, grow the 42nd Ward Republican Organization, and collaborate with other Republican committeeman and organizations to begin the process of putting forth a viable alternative in Chicago.
