The Obama Administration has just announced that the G8 Summit is being removed from Chicago. It will now be held at Camp David, the long-time presidential retreat.
Citing security concerns, the White House notes that the NATO Summit will still be held in Chicago.
“To facilitate a free-flowing discussion with our close G-8 partners, the President is inviting his fellow G-8 leaders to Camp David on May 18-19 for the G-8 Summit, which will address a broad range of economic, political and security issues,” the White House said in a prepared statement.
I speculate that Mayor Emanuel asked the president to help him with his monumental security problems and this was one of the solutions the mayor and the White House decided upon.
