Bambenek Reacts to Nudo's Economic Filing

From the campaign of John Bambenek for State Senate (52nd District)…

Opponent Files Statement of Economic Interests without Listing Critical Information Required by Law

CHAMPAIGN, IL (January 12, 2012) — According to economic disclosure documents filed with the office of the Illinois Secretary of State, Republican candidate and county board member Al Nudo does not have any significant business interests or income, despite being listed as the President of Triple R LLC/ Robeson’s Inc. in current professional directories and official documents, as well as in the annual corporate filings for Robeson’s. His official Statement of Economic Interests does not list any source of income. This has come to light after the revelation that Nudo’s residence is not inside the 52nd State Senate district, and after public documents for campaign finance disclosure revealed that his company was a past donor to Mike Frerich’s campaign. According to Illinois law, 5 ILCS 420/4A, Ch. 127, par. 604 A-107, any person required to file a statement of economic interests under this Article who willfully files a false or incomplete statement shall be guilty of a Class A misdemeanor.

“I have spent years pushing for the cause of transparency and reform. The recent conviction of Rod Blagojevich shows why this is necessary. The Statement of Economic Interests is a vital public document that allows the media and public basic information to see if their elected leaders are acting in their own interest or the public interest. The public and the legislature understand the importance of this document, which is why they attach potential criminal penalties to knowingly falsifying that document, “Bambenek commented.

“I call on him to immediately amend his report so that it properly lists his true economic interests so voters and the media have the crucial information they need to be able to hold their political leaders accountable. “
Nudo’s filing of the form without listing his businesses and income source, if inaccurate or untrue, will jeopardize his candidacy for the 52nd District.
