Tonight, Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) announced he will run in the 16th Congressional District of Illinois.
Hi, I’m Adam Kinzinger and today, I’m honored to announce that I am running in the newly drawn 16th Congressional District of Illinois. I’ve decided to run in the new 16th District because it encompasses more of the current 11th District than any other district under the new map.
Over the last year, I’ve had the opportunity to serve as a conservative voice in Washington, sent by folks who are ready for a fresh break from the status quo and who stand with me and fight for the same core principles – ending runaway spending, restoring faith in our markets, repealing Obamacare and limiting the size and scope of our government.
As a country, we’ve seen the financial and economic strain placed on our nation over the last three years – but, we’ve also seen our nation flourish and thrive. We know that when we work as a nation united, rather than divided, we are able to move mountains together.
During these difficult times, we must have voices in Washington who will fight tirelessly to refuel our economy while restoring that American Spirit. We need people who remember they work for you – the people, not those who have been in Congress for decades and believe Washington knows best. Government does not know best – the small business owners who know what it’s like to sign the front of a paycheck, rather than the back, do. Washington must, as Ronald Reagan said, “trust the people.”
Over the last several months, my freshman classmates and I have been fighting to shake things up in Washington and change the conversation from how much to spend to how much to cut. I’ve been working tirelessly to ensure my all of my constituents’ voices are heard.
Now is the time to evaluate each and every person we are sending to Washington. Now is the time to identify those in Washington who are committed to following through on making the difficult decisions that you sent us there to make – And, eliminating those who have opted to take the easy way out. At a time when our national debt exceeds $15 trillion, we must continue to make the bold but necessary budget cuts that will refuel our economy and leave future generations with the same opportunities that many of us have been blessed with.
We CAN accomplish this. It won’t happen overnight – it will take hard work and commitment to change our current trajectory – but with your help, it won’t take us 20 years, either.
Every day of inaction is a day we will never get back. We simply cannot afford to sit back and continue to let more debt pile on to the backs of our kids and grandkids. Ultimately, history will judge us by whether we decided to stand up and fight to chart a new course or stood back and allowed the same go-along; get along politics to consume Washington. Now is the time to act.
