Campaign and Tax Appeal Update‏

From the office of Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Dan Patlak…

Political news: On Monday morning, November 28 our campaign filed over 9,300 petition signatures with the Cook County Clerk’s Election Department. We needed to file a minimum of 2,740 signatures to get on the ballot but filed much in excess of that number because we wanted to be sure our petitions would withstand any possible challenge. Thank you to all those volunteers who helped us collect so many signatures. And a huge thank you to all those who signed Dan’s petition helping him get his name on the ballot. Promises kept: An update is due regarding our new on-line appeal system started this past September 6. Based on data from the first group of townships opened, appealing on-line is a hit with the public. Despite limited publicity, forty-nine percent of all parcels of property appealed were filed electronically. In addition to increasing access for tax payers, our new on-line system has increased efficiency and saved tax payer dollars by reducing both the use of paper complaint forms and man-hours devoted to data entry.

Current appeals: Fourteen townships have already opened and closed for filing (Riverside, River Forest, Norwood Park, Berwyn, Cicero, Evanston, Oak Park, Rogers Park, Palos, New Trier, Maine, Elk Grove, Bremen and Lakeview). The townships of Barrington, Calumet, Lemont, Palatine and Stickney are now open for appeal until December 7. The townships of Lake, Lyons and Worth are now open until December 28. If you own property in any of the currently open townships you may file an appeal on-line by going to You may also fill out a paper appeal form which can also be downloaded from the Board web site. If you own property in a township that has not yet opened for appeal, check our website at and click on Appeal Dates & Deadlines to see if your township is open.

Major Endorsement: Both the Elk Grove Regular Republican Organization and the Republicans of Wheeling Township have endorsed Dan’s candidacy this past month. Click here to read some interesting comments about the endorsement from Elk Grove Committeeman Mike Sweeney.
