From the office of Rep. Randy Hultgren (R, Illinois 14th District)…
This was a historic week in Washington as we saw our nation’s debt surpass an unprecedented $15 trillion. This spending-driven debt crisis poses a grave threat to our country’s economic recovery, our national security and sovereignty, and the standard of living for future generations. Either we stop spending money we don’t have or we condemn our children and grandchildren to a bankrupt future they don’t deserve.
That’s why I was pleased to vote for a Balanced Budget Amendment (BBA) to our Constitution on Friday.
The BBA is a permanent spending reform that would hold all future Congresses accountable for their spending and would put an end to the spending-driven debt crisis, caused by past administrations and past Congresses who just couldn’t or wouldn’t say, “No more.”
As Ronald Reagan said in 1982, “Only a constitutional amendment will do the job. We’ve tried the carrot, and it failed. With the stick of a Balanced Budget Amendment, we can stop government squandering, overtaxing ways, and save our economy.”
Unfortunately, the BBA failed to pass the House of Representatives on Friday. While I am disappointed by the outcome of the vote, I will continue to fight to restore fiscal sanity to federal government and put an end to the out-of-control spending that has plagued us for decades.
Finally, on behalf of me and my family, I’d like to wish you a very happy and safe Thanksgiving.
As always, it is truly an honor to serve you in Washington. Please contact me at 630.232.7104 or 202.225.2976 if I can be of assistance, or if you’d like to share your thoughts on the issues before Congress.

Small Business Resource Fair
On Monday, November 21, I will be hosting a free Small Business Resource Fair at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove. I’m hosting this event because small business owners shouldn’t need to hire a Washington consultant to learn about doing business with the federal government, small business programs, and other available resources.

On Tuesday, November 22, I will be hosting a free Veterans Forum at the Batavia Overseas Post 1197 VFW in Batavia. I will be joined by Duane Honeycutt, Director of the Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Office in Chicago (VARO), to discuss issues such as how to file a claim, the claim and appeal process, what documents are necessary to file a claim, the length of time to review a claim, as well as other issues that pertain to the VARO.
