Roskam Applauds Bipartisan Passage of Repeal of Job-Crushing 3 Percent Withholding Rule

From the office of Rep. Peter Roskam (R, Illinois 6th District)…

Washington, DC – Chief Deputy Whip Peter Roskam (IL-06) issued the following statement today after the House passed the Senate Amendment to H.R. 674, legislation to repeal the 3 percent withholding rule.

“I applaud the House for passing the permanent repeal of the burdensome and job-destroying 3 percent withholding rule. It’s just the latest example of House Republicans working with Democrats and President Obama to find common ground to remove barriers to job creation. House Republicans have continued to pass jobs bills that will help put America back to work. Regrettably, Democrats have blocked all but a few. I strongly urge Senate Democrats to work with Republicans, like on the repeal of the 3 percent withholding rule, and take up the 20-plus House-passed jobs bills sitting in the Senate.”

What Employers Are Saying About the 3% Withholding Bill:
Associated Equipment Distributors President & CEO Toby Mack
“The tax would create enormous cash flow problems for equipment distributors and construction contractors, who do business with state and local governments on razor-thin margins. Repealing the tax will help provide certainty and restore confidence for small construction firms still struggling to recover from the recession.”
Chicago Roofing Contractors Association Executive Director Bill McHugh
“If allowed to take effect, this tax will create cash-flow problems and a punitive contracting environment in which it will be even more difficult for roofing contractors and other businesses to create and sustain the jobs needed for economic recovery.”
