Darlene Ruscitti Throws Her Hat in the 8th District Race

DuPage Superintendent of Education Darlene Ruscitti has announced that she is in the hunt for the newly redistricted 8th Congressional District seat that Rep. Joe Walsh is vacating to run in the 14th District.

Ruscitti is the first woman to hold the superintendency in the 157-year history of DuPage County starting her third term in July of 2011. Ruscitti is currently the Vice President of the Illinois Association of County Superintendents and is chair of the Bloomingdale Township Republican Party, and several other groups.

Ruscitti has over seen a department with a ten million dollar budget and believes that, “we must clearly educate our nation to a better economy and it must be done better, cheaper, and faster.”

Ruscitti earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northern Illinois University and a doctorate from Loyola.

Awards and recognitions include the Leonardo da Vinci Award from the Illinois Order of the Sons of Italy in America, the Impresa Award from the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans Women’s Division, Educator of the Year from the DuPage Mental Illness Association, as well as the Lamp of Learning Award, Outstanding Woman Education Leader of the Year for DuPage County award, Friends of Education Award and a Lincoln Public Service Fellowship.
