Schilling to Serve on Armed Services and Agriculture Committees

From the office of Congressman-elect Bobby Schilling…

Rep.-elect Schilling successfully pursues two committees important to our area’s interests

EAST MOLINE, IL–Representative-elect Bobby Schilling has received his committee assignments for the 112th Congress. He will be serving on both the Armed Services Committee and the Agriculture Committee. Illinois will get a representative on the House Armed Services panel after not having one during the 111th Congress. Schilling said he was pleased with his assignments and ready to start working for the 17th District. “When I decided to run for Congress, I promised to deliver excellent constituent services to the people of our area,” Schilling said. “I will protect the Rock Island Arsenal and our area’s military interests on the Armed Services Committee and I will work hard for our farmers and producers as a member of the Agriculture Committee. I look forward to serving the people come January.”

Representative John Shimkus (R-IL), a member of the Steering Committee, said that Bobby had received tremendous committee assignments for the area he represents.

“Bobby Schilling will provide a strong voice for our brave men and women in uniform as well as our nation’s farmers,” Shimkus said. “These committees have oversight of our national defense as well as the next farm bill and Bobby will have an opportunity to make a difference on these policies.”

Representative Peter Roskam (R-IL), another member of the Steering Committee and newly named Chief Deputy Whip, said that Schilling fared very well in receiving appointments to two committees covering issues important to the economy and people of Illinois.

“With seats on both the Armed Services and Agriculture Committees, Bobby Schilling is well-positioned to make a positive impact in the new Congress from day one,” Roskam said. “As the Congressman for Rock Island Arsenal, Bobby Schilling’s voice on the Armed Services Committee will add valuable perspective and help advance the interests of the state of Illinois.”

Representative Aaron Schock (R-IL) said the committee assignments Rep.-elect Schilling received will help bring jobs to the 17th District.

“Bobby Schilling is off to a fantastic start,” Schock said. “The bottom line is that Congressman Bobby Schilling’s top committee assignments are the best assignments possible for jobs in the 17th District. There is no better way for Congressman Schilling to advocate for jobs in the district than being no the Agriculture Committee when agriculture is the district’s number one employer and a new five-year farm bill will be adopted by the next Congress. Simultaneously, as our military undergoes continued streamlining, Bobby Schilling will be in a significant position of power to help increase the competitiveness of the Rock Island Arsenal.”

Kevin Diederich, an employee at the Rock Island Arsenal, said he believes Schilling would represent this district’s military interests well on the Armed Services Committee.

“I’ve known Bobby for quite some time, and I was pleased to find out he’d be serving on the Armed Services Committee. I know he will work hard to keep jobs at the Rock Island Arsenal.”

Steve Bush of Andalusia headed up the Farmers for Bobby Schilling coalition during the campaign. He believes Schilling’s position on the Agriculture Committee will help the district tremendously.

“Illinois 17 is one of the most agricultural districts in the nation. We need a Congressman who will represent the interests of farmers and agribusiness. Congressman-elect Schilling’s presence on the Agriculture Committee will be of great benefit to our area.”

William Albracht, a veteran and an advocate for veterans in the 17th District, said that Bobby Schilling is a great pick for the Armed Services Committee.

“In a time when America is in the cross-hairs of international terrorism and our troops are in harm’s way, we must strengthen our country as well as our resolve. We are very fortunate that Congressman-elect Bobby Schilling will serve the 17th District and America on the House Armed Services Committee. Integrity, honesty, and character are attributes that our leaders must possess. It is my firm belief that Bobby Schilling will bring all three to Washington, D.C.”
