Noblesse Oblige: Obama's Dog Gets Own Plane on Vacation Trip

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Morning Sentinel, a small paper from the state of Maine, has a travelogue story of the Obama’s vacation in and about Maine today. It has a very interesting little tidbit in it that should enrage every American. It is something that really shows Barack Obama’s arrogance and his obviously assumed air of noblesse oblige.

Among the exciting details of the Obama’s visit to Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor is this tidbit:

Arriving in a small jet before the Obamas was the first dog, Bo, a Portuguese water dog given as a present by the late U.S. Sen Ted Kennedy, D-Mass….

As the rest of us toil on the unemployment line, as millions of Americans find their retirement accounts dwindling, their hours at work cut, and their pay scale trimmed, King Barack and Queen Michelle are flying their little doggie, Bo, on his own special jet airplane for his own little vacation adventure.

Well, it must be nice to be able to afford to fly your doggie about the country whenever you feel like it. It must be nice to hire people to act as your dog’s escort. It must be comforting to know that you have the power to arrange such luxury for a dog.

As America lurches toward depression our leader is wasting millions on constant vacationing — 16 vehicles were used to drive the Obama’s around North Carolina — and affording his dog …his dog… his owns special jet airplane.

Air traffic at the small Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport in Trenton was shut down for the presidential arrival. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter patrolled the air in anticipation of the first family’s touchdown, and a pair of local fire and rescue trucks stood ready on an otherwise empty tarmac at the private air hangar.

The Obamas then traveled onto Mount Desert Island in a motorcade of at least 16 vehicles. It was led by two Maine State Police cruisers and included five black Chevrolet Suburbans.

And all this on OUR dime, folks. We are paying for our monarch to fly his pets around the country on their own special jets, folks.

Perhaps Barack Obama isn’t like a king. Perhaps he’s more like an emperor? An emperor like the fiddling Nero.

  • This is ugly and false. Every other news site notes that Obama's family flew in one jet and all of his staffers, plus the dog, flew in another jet -- and the reason for this was that the airport where they went was too small to accommodate the usual presidential jet. The dog did not fly in its own jet. It did not fly with a single handler. There was a whole second planeload of presidential staffers, and the dog was on that second plane.

You are really stupid, you know? Every president travels with staff members. Yes, it's on our dime. We expect our president to be accompanied by staff when he travels.

Come on, man up - take down your dumb picture of Obama in a crown, admit you made a huge journalistic blunder based on your partisan politics (either that or you simply enjoy telling lies) and use this experience as a lesson in fact-gathering and ethical conduct.

  • What a ridiculously biased story. At first read I thought this was a joke. Who would so blatantly formulate a lie like this? The author of this story can't possibly consider himself a journalist. This story isn't just someone expressing an opinion, it's someone knowingly telling a lie for a personal political agenda. How pathetic.

  • Yes, the private jet can chartered not only for luxury or business purpose, but it can be also used for carrying the pets.

See I think you guys are missing the real point. it doesn't really matter if Bo was on the plane and the staffers just flew with him or the other way around. The point is that Obama has been in office for less than two years and yet has taken more vacations than probably most Americans have in probably the last 5 years. Appearences matter. and at the moment it appears that Obama doesn't take his job seriously at all. because he's either playing golf or on vacation or both? how many of you were DISGUSTED when after the Fort Hood shooting, Obama took the stage to give his remarks and spent almost 10 minutes giving "shout-outs" to people. It was disrespectful! and downright un-Presidential. And after the Christmas day bomber... he was on vacation (again) in Hawaii. I understand wanting to share the holiday with his family away from the spotlight. but at the same time the way and manner in which he again addressed the manner was Un-Presidential. and yet people decry the criticizim of Obama, yet were the same ones that derided President Bush for spending an extra 10 minutes with a group of elementary students, to whom he was reading a book, immediatly following the terrror attacks on September 11, 2001.

And one more thing... if Bo is supposed to be part of the "family" and is a "family pet" why did he need to ride with the staffers anyway.... one would think that he would have ridden with the family in their plane?

  • In reply to privatejet:

Anyone who thinks Bo flew in his own plane is as dumb as a Jello hammer.
