Western Illinois Leathernecks

Missouri Valley Football Conference

Head Coach:  Jared Elliott

Overall Record:  1-11

Conference Record:  1-7

Biggest Win:  Trailing at one time by 13 points, Western rallied to pull out a 38-34 thriller over South Dakota as Clint Ratkovich broke loose for a nine-yard touchdown run with 34 seconds left to delight the home crowd at Hanson Field.

Most Frustrating Loss: After forcing overtime in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter, the Leathernecks dropped a triple-OT heartbreaker to Missouri State 37-31. The loss not only opened the conference schedule but also came on homecoming.

Returning strengths for 2020:  Western returns many of its key players at skill positions as well as experience in the offensive line.

Emerging Stars:  RBs DeShon Gavin & Jordan Schippers

Giving Thanks:  Despite winning just one game, Elliott and his staff held the team together in the toughest of times.

New Year’s Wish List:  Injuries devastated the Leathernecks in 2019. May such afflictions avoid Macomb going forward.

Biggest Shoes to Fill:  LB Zach Glisan, LB Tom Rehfeld, DL LaCale London, WR George Wahee
