Bigotry, hate, violence, and division are not acceptable

Rule number one of governing: once elected to office, cease the divisive behavior and condemn supporters who engage in bigotry, hate, and division. That also goes for the candidates who lost. Our elected and those who lost are letting the nation down right now.

For Mr. Trump, it is particularly egregious, as he won on a platform of hate, bigotry, and division. Here is what he has unleashed and is ignoring. In Gurnee, Illinois, “Whites Only” graffiti was found in a girl’s bathroom.

Muslim students at NYU found the word “Trump” scribbled on the door of a prayer room students use.

Kids as young as 5th grade have been chanting at Latino students, “Build the wall,” and in New Jersey, kids taunted Latino kids with “10 feet higher,” a reference to the Mexico/US Wall Trump pledged in the election.

Where do you think the kids learned this behavior? It used to be racism and intolerance was learned around the dinner table. Not in 2016, now they hear it from the mouth of the President-Elect of the United States, and his supporters who just won’t let it go.

Neo-Nazi Trump supporter Andrew Anglin is celebrating the Trump victory by encouraging supporters on his “Daily Stormer” racist site to confront foreigners, especially Muslims, on the street to make them feel uncomfortable. On his blog post, Anglin wrote:

“I am of course against any violence against these people, however, I do think you should yell at them in people (sic) tell them to go home. I encourage you to do that with any foreigners and especially those wearing Islamic clothing. We want these people to feel unwanted. We want them to feel that everything around them is against them. And we want them to be afraid.”

At Southern Lehigh High School in Pennsylvania, even before the election was over, students had been giving the Nazi salute and calling African-American students cotton pickers.

In Maine, residents found fliers from a group called, “The Traditionalist Rights of the Ku Klux Klan,” which bore the image of a man in a hood, with text that proclaimed “Police Lives Matter,” along with the phone number of the Klanline phone service.

In Tuscaloosa, Alabama, an image of an African-American hung by the neck has been removed from above a local coffee shop. You can see the image as recorded by a local TV station by clicking here.

When a candidate talks about Mexicans being criminals, rapists and drug dealers; when a candidate talks about banning all Muslims; when a candidate scorns unarmed African Americans who have died at the hands of police when they should not have been killed, this is what you get.

What is Trump saying about this? Nothing. Nothing at all. What is he doing to stop it? Nothing. What are Trump supporters saying on social media about it? They are claiming they aren’t aware of any of this behavior.

Well, when one gets their news from Fox, that isn’t surprising. Fox ignores it too.

Now retributions are starting in. The Chicago Tribune reports some guy was pulled from his car and beaten while his attackers chanted anti-Trump slogans.

This has got to stop. Donald Trump, with his continued silence, only serves to encourage this. GOP supporters on social media, you were silent when the racial talk started and you are still silent. From your silence are we to assume you condone this behavior?

Secretary Clinton, you need to admonish supporters that violence is not acceptable.

This is making America Great again?
