Fundraiser Details Set For Local Ironman Athlete Battling Cancer

As I’ve discussed previously, local athlete Kristin McQueen, 33, has been battling cancer for almost nine years.

Her response to the disease – and a range of unusual and debilitating side effects – has been to complete six Ironman competitions and countless marathons, triathlons and other races… raising over $100,000 for the American Cancer Society at the same time.

Seven brain surgeries, five neck surgeries, two rounds of radiation and continual appointments and treatments with a group of doctors, both local and spread across the country, is expensive.

It is because of this, and because of how much Kristin has done to support others with cancer, that we are holding a fundraiser benefiting Kristin on Saturday, May 19th.

The event will be at Southport Lanes from 4-6 p.m. $40 will buy attendees a drink package, appetizers and bowling. Kids are welcome, with a ticket price of $10.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction and raffle for items including everything from Ryder Cup tickets, handcrafted goods, a year of massages and wine.

All proceeds from the event will support McQueen’s ongoing medical expenses.

This event is open to the public. Knowing Kristin is not a requirement – just a desire to tell cancer to suck it.

To RSVP, check out the event details on Facebook, or visit McQueen’s fundraiser homepage on GiveForward.
