2015 Pat Whitworth Illinois Debutante Video Preview

This Saturday’s card at Hawthorne features the Pat Whitworth Illinois Debutante — the first of this fall’s pair of state-bred stakes race for juveniles.  The race is restricted to Illinois-bred fillies, with eligibility further determined by futurity-style rules.  Fillies had to be nominated by a July deadline, with future payments to maintain eligibility due later in July, as well as in September.  Thirty-four fillies were eligible for the race; ten have actually entered to run in the Pat Whitworth.

In addition to our coverage of Hawthorne, Picks and Ponderings also flies south.  Gulfstream Park’s winter Championship Meet opens this weekend.  Again this year, the meet gets underway with the Claiming Crown: nine hotly contested starter stakes with huge fields and huge betting opportunities.  We preview all nine.
