The win was the first career graded stakes for rider Constantino Roman, and she stopped the clock for the 1 1/8 miles on polytrack in 1:51.46. LA TIA was the third choice at just under 4-1 on the tote and paid $9.60 to win. It was her second straight stakes triumph, having won the Purple Violet against Illinois-breds on the June 16th Prairie State Festival program.
After the race, winning trainer Brian Williamson beamed over the victory, “She got out on the lead and ran great. Constantino rode her great. She was two for two on the Polytrack (here) and won both races easily. So I thought we’d keep her on the Poly and give her a shot.”
Both SKY DREAMER and IRE closed to gobble the minor awards, with SKY DREAMER getting place honors, five lengths ahead of IRE. LADY CANDIDATE completed the superfecta. G3 Regret veteran TREASURED UP, the 7-5 favorite, finished off the board in sixth, second to last.
The $2 7-8 exacta of LA TIA over SKY DREAMER paid $46. Fifty cent 7-8-2 trifectas including IRE rewarded $67.90 to correct punters. Dime 7-8-2-1 superfectas including LADY CANDIDATE paid $44.01.
