SNL Exhibit at Broadcast Museum Conveys Program's Counter-Culture Tradition

SNL Exhibit at Broadcast Museum Conveys Program's Counter-Culture Tradition

Very few institutions in American life have realized the Facebookian style counter-culture to mainstream culture journey that Saturday Night Live has realized. Unlike Facebook however, SNL continues pushing the envelope and testing boundaries these days.

A current exhibit at the Museum of Broadcast Communications (360 N. State), “SNL: The Experience,” edifies the visitor on the roots and history of the 43-year-old television program. The first show aired on 10-11-75, and it quickly established the franchise’s counter-culture vibe, executed on stage by the “not ready for prime time” players.

Dana Loesch: NRA Spokesmodel's Resume Screams Hypocrisy and Fraud

Dana Loesch: NRA Spokesmodel's Resume Screams Hypocrisy and Fraud

If Dana Loesch, the public face of National Rifle Association ANGER and RAGE, comes off as more than a bit histrionic, it’s probably because she once was an aspiring actress. Today, Loesch has created a nice niche for herself as the dream woman of extreme gun fetishists everywhere.

However, she’s really isn't more than just the latest edition in a long line of media personalities embodying a tried and true far right motif: Take repugnant and deplorable ideas, but deliver them in a physically attractive package, thus tricking the general viewer into believing such world views are more presentable.

It also fools the idiot viewer into genuinely believing the repulsive stances which are conveyed. See Tomi Lahren, Ann Coulter, Laura Ingrahan, Sarah Palin etc.

March for Our Lives Chicago: Important Event Details

March for Our Lives Chicago: Important Event Details
Saturday brings the March for Our Lives, a show of solidarity against the epidemic of gun violence that plagues our country. It's also a call to action for the implementation of common sense guns laws, and to thus hold the NRA, the politicians that support them, and the arms manufacturers and dealers accountable. The main event, much like all the other marches that have been held since January 2017, will be held in Washington D.C. but the motto of the local event is this:   In Chicago We March for Our Lives Everyday....

Inevitable Robert Mueller Clash Only Current Compelling Trump Storyline

Inevitable Robert Mueller Clash Only Current Compelling Trump Storyline
Unless it involves a new, big breaking news bombshell in the Robert Mueller investigation, I'm tired of any news relating to Donald Trump. I'm more tired than Prince Valium in Spaceballs. I have Trump, especially Trump Twitter fatigue. I'm more fatigued than an obese man trying to run a half-marathon. We are headed to an inevitable showdown between Trump and Robert Mueller, and until we get there, we're all trapped in a vicious cycle constructed by an astounding confluence of factors...

Blue Wave Coming in November? Looking Beyond Conor Lamb Triumph

Blue Wave Coming in November? Looking Beyond Conor Lamb Triumph
Democrat Conor Lamb's upsetting of Republican and Donald Trump endorsed Rick Saccone in the Pennsylvania special election 18th district is yet another sign of an impending blue wave in the coming midterm elections. It's a heavily Republican district that Trump won by 20 points, and Mitt Romney won by 17. It's also the heart of steel country, so perhaps a message was sent tonight about those steel tariffs. We've heard all about the blue wave that's supposed to be washing ashore this November, but it won't be coming unless the enthusiasm gap is closed; and then some. The gap needs to be surpassed because Democrats just aren't as good (bad for us the voter) at gerrymandering...

Congressman Ro Khanna, Steve Kerr to Lead Town Hall Discussion on Gun Violence

Congressman Ro Khanna, Steve Kerr to Lead Town Hall Discussion on Gun Violence
Gun sense, gun reform, gun control, whichever term you prefer to use, this is the primary issue in America right now. We currently find ourselves in an extremely pivotal moment regarding this debate, and it appears a tipping point could be coming. Amidst this potential sea change, Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif) and Golden State Warriors Coach Steve Kerr will lead a town hall style discussion on gun violence in America with high school students from seven different schools across California's 17th district. Gun violence is an issue that definitely hits home for Kerr, as he was just 18 when his father, former President of the American University of Beirut Malcolm Kerr, was assassinated by gunmen in January 1984. The event, which is expected to be attended by 2,000 people, will take place at Newark Memorial High School in the events center starting at 3:45pm PT on Monday, 3/12. It will also be live-streamed on Rep. Khanna’s official Facebook page. Khanna granted us an exclusive interview ahead of the event, and you can listen to audio of that below...

Major Gun Sense Obstacles Part 2: Policy/Microlevel Issues

Major Gun Sense Obstacles Part 2: Policy/Microlevel Issues

It’s right there in the text of the second amendment: “a well-regulated militia.”

What vision of “well-regulated” did the founding fathers have? Was it gun show loopholes? The ability of a suspected terrorist who’s on the no-fly list being able to purchase a gun? What about Donald Trump rolling back President Obama’s executive order restricting the mentally ill from purchasing firearms?

How about the fact that those who committed domestic abuse can obtain guns? Or the fact that purchasing sinus medication is more closely monitored than weapons of war? How is this all “well-regulated?”
