I find it really annoying when people say,
“It’s no fun to dress boys.”
“Boy’s clothes are so boring.”
Because it’s border line criminal how much fun it can be to dress your little guy. Vests and khakis, casual suits and hats! I love retailers like Tea, which tout bright colors and tops for your goody two-shoes sailor or a feisty 3-foot tall pirate.
But I love me my small businesses and Etsy.
Boys can be just as beautiful and memorable. (Yes, I said it, boys are beautiful.) In fact, it takes more than a little bit of creativity to put together a little boy’s outfit. Etsy shop owner, Natalie Carter of Tiny Chaos, took a simple project of making her 2 sons bow ties for Easter and now has a thriving online shop which is creating quite a buzz in the toddler fashion scene.
I had to ask Natalie why she thought people poo-poo boy’s apparel (just to make sure I wasn’t the only crazy person) and she said:
“It’s all about the accessories. Girls have hair bows, barrettes, little purses or glittery shoes. Boys don’t have many options, but ties let them express themselves when they are old enough to pick them out. And when they aren’t old enough, well then it’s just fun to put them in whatever you want, right?”
My thoughts exactly.
I am loving these hand-made bow ties, and took the liberty of selecting a few and paired them up with social events:
Taking Over School – Black and White Chevron
Time for Church – Pink and Black Plaid
Afternoon Picnic with Mom – Blue and Orange Plaid
The Ring Bearer – Charcoal Gray
Natalie creates the bows in two different sizes:
– Newborns/Infants: Bow measures 2.5″ across and the strap measures 12″
– Toddlers/Kids: Bow measures 4.0″ across and the strap measures 15.5″
Each bow has a 2.5″ Velcro closure for easy adjusting and room for your growing boy. All bows are lined to maintain their shape AND are made by Natalie in a smoke-free and pet-free studio. (adult sizes are also available)
So, what’s holding you back from primping your boy a bit and making him into a trendsetting toddler?
