As moving season swings into high gear, I wanted to go over some very common mistakes people during this process. In order to limit the already challenges of a move, you need to have a process in place.
DON’T HAUL YOUR CRAP ACROSS THE MAP
Depending on the size of your home and how long you have resided in it, you will need to do a pre move purge. Why pay to move stuff that you don’t need or use anymore. It’s time to make some decisions. If you live in a large home, give yourself time to properly go through and evaluate your belongings. Yesterday I filled my car with 20 bags of such items.
PROPERLY LABEL YOUR BOXES
Your boxes should be labeled for the room they are going into, not the room they came from. Make sure your movers put them in the appropriate place. This will make the unpacking a lot quicker.
AVOID THE BOX DUMP
Don’t let your movers dump all your misc items in the basement or pile sky high in the garage. Remember after they leave, you still have to unpack. Don’t make it hard on yourself. Who wants to make 30 trips up and down the stairs.
THE MASTER CLOSET MAYHEM
There is nothing worse than trying to dig out wardrobe boxes out of a master closet. Have your movers put the boxes outside the closet. This way you can open the closet and put the items away as you unpack.
UNPACKING A LITTLE AT A TIME
Looking around a place with boxes everywhere can be really overwhelming. Unpack one room at a time and clear the boxes out of it. Once you complete one room, start on another room.
And most importantly- enjoy your new home!!!
