Spring is Here, How To Jumpstart Your Spring Cleaning/Organizing

Welcome to Spring. And yes, In Chicago we woke up to snow. Thankfully, it stopped and the sun came out. I am starting to feel hopeful.

Along with Spring, comes the tradition of Spring Cleaning. In some cultures, the cleaning of the whole house is a tradition. Everything is moved, dusted, and mopped.

Do you Spring clean? Does your family or culture have traditions? Do you drag your kids out of bed on a Saturday to help with the process? Whatever you goals are, I have included a few small projects to help you get started:

* Clean off those winter boots and wash your boot mat. Put them away.

* Clean out your car- inside and out. Hopefully you had weather mats to protect the floors. Hose them off and put them away.

* Closet shifting- If you don’t flip your closet seasonally, move your out of season clothes to a higher level.

* Clean or dry clean your winter coats. When I first moved to Chicago (from Texas), I took my coats in to the dry cleaner and she refused to take them. She told me I was obviously from out of town and I would still need them (best piece of advice ever). This one might have to wait till April.

* Analyze your spring/summer wardrobe and make a list of what you need to purchase.

* Transition your mudroom. All those scarves and gloves should be put away. Bring down the baseball hats and visors. Winter sports items should be put away along with boots. Make space for flip flops and sandals. Bring out the light jackets and rain coats.

Enjoy your first day of spring! Don’t stress yourself out getting ready for the change of season. Take it one little project at a time.
