The Second Bedroom Syndrome; Catching It All

In the city, its a huge upgrade to have an extra bedroom. For several years I worked out of my living room and let guests have the master(the only) when they came to visit.

Too many times to count, I have seen this extra room become a catch all. It may have started out as an office or guest room, but it ends up getting full.

Since most people don’t use it on a regular basis (unless you work out of the house), its easy to just drop and go. Those boxes from the new appliances, extra clothes, and lets not forget about the paper.

Second bedrooms become the catch all room because the door can be shut when company comes. Its an easy solution.

So how do you stop the “second bedroom” syndrome in your home?

* Start in one corner and work your way around the room.
* Utilize the closet for storage
* Move what you can to your storage unit (usually basement of condo)
* Make the room pretty- No one wants to mess up the pretty
* Create a filing system for those papers

My motto is “Don’t put it down, put it away”! Make sure everything in your place has a home.

In my experience, many of the items in a catch all room, are things that aren’t loved or used on a regular basis. They also come from the other rooms in your home or condo. After purging and relocating items, you wil have your space back.
