As we embark on the holiday season, and everyone is getting ready to celebrate, my phone is going crazy. Yes, tis the season to purge your home. Out with the old and in with the new they say with the new year.
So how do you get your home ready for the holidays without losing your sanity? Start with what is visible. What areas will your guests see? The top three areas tend to be the kitchen, dining room, and the living or family room.
Kitchen- Go cabinet to cabinet. What is working and what isn’t working? How many coffee cups do you really need? Streamline!! Are you one of those people that replace things and leave the old one in the drawer? Have you ever used that waffle maker(the top appliance, along with the bread maker that I see people donating). Clear off those counters!!
Living Room- Time to relocate items. You will find a little bit of everything in this room. Most of the stuff comes from other rooms and just needs to be put away.
Dining Room- In the organizing world, we call it the “dining room dump”. Yup, that big table that you don’t use on a regular basis. Its so easy to just toss your mail and misc items on it. This once beautiful space becomes a family dumping ground.
Guest Rooms- These rooms also end up being catch alls at times. The land of unwanted gifts, forgotten returns, ect. Remember that your guests may need some space to hang up their clothes- clear out a small corner in the closet.
Don’t stress yourself out. Take one project at a time. Soon your will be ready for holiday season!
