Halloween, Chicago Style

A baby superhero

In my opinion, it doesn’t get any better than Chicago for Halloween, even when Mother Nature *gifts* us with snow. Chicagoans take this holiday seriously and the entertaining North Halsted Halloween Parade is a solid indicator of that.  Off Color Brewing – Mousetrap went all out with their annual Dino S’mores Release/Costume Party. When I saw the beer line-up, I knew I would have to make this doable before the parade.

A little birdie told me there is a large-scale new mural up at 2001 N. Racine, which is less than a mile from Off Color. I almost ran on the snow-covered sidewalks to see this beauty with my own two eyes.  My jaw dropped and as you can see, it’s intricately gorgeous. The mural is by artist Eskat Valerio and stands about five feet tall.

Isn’t she lovely?

My excited taste buds were torn over what to order because I wanted everything on the tap list. An unrealistic expectation given the high ABVs. I made a pact with myself to only order two, ultimately deciding on the Barrel Aged Dino S’Mores and Coffee Dino S’mores. Oh my dark stars, these stouts were sinfully delicious. Boozy with notes of chocolate and barrel, and of course, coffee.

Barrel-aged goodness

Hello, coffee

The atmosphere was so fun at Off Color that I left late and missed the parade. No worries, because the entertainment lingers well after the parade has ended. People watching on Halsted Street never disappoints and I love the costume inventiveness. If you didn’t attend, here’s a little piece of the action.
