Things to Hate About the State of Indiana

In consideration of my pending trip to the “Crossroads of America”, I thought it would be fitting to play modern day Almanac if you will, and discuss some of the things that make Indiana… Indiana, or in other words, so damn repulsive. Enjoy, and please pray for my safety at Conseco Field House, and at the various “Service Stations” and other establishments I will be visiting along the way.

  • I'm sure Indiana people have plenty of fine things to say about Illinois, including about its present and past governors, legislators, county executives, police hassling people with out of state plates, polluting coal fired electrical plants ...

Of course, Indiana thanks Illinois for the county commissioner who goes to Indiana to buy gas, all the Illinois residents who go to Indiana to buy cigarettes and gamble in their casinos, and providing a refuge for Democrat legislators who do not want to do state business.

I've lived in both states, so I know.

I like your username-its right to the point; not the least bit cryptic. I respect that. Thanks for your feedback-which is actually spot on.

Koolking: You forgot to tell your readers the true facts.
I authored the American State Litter Scorecard--Illinois, too, is rated a WORST state (scored 42nd--tied with Georgia and Oklahoma) for public space cleanliness due to poor litter/debris abatement and related public performances--primarily roadside litter and adjacent properties. Indiana is worst, scoring 45th, and nearby Kentucky was #50--WORST of the worst. [Washington State was the top BEST state]. Illinois' final score tally added up to +6.5, compared to Indiana's +6.0 and Kentucky's 0.0.
Illinois did poorly on Per Person Daily Waste Disposal (8 pounds thrown away by every resident, above U.S. average of 5 pounds per day); poor Environmental Responsibility Reputation of State Governor; poor Licensed Drivers Knowledge of Littering and other Road Laws; poor Integrity of State Thoroughfare Maintenance Disbursements and very poor on State Public Corruption Convictions per Population Proportion. The Land of Lincoln still lacks statewide Litter Taxation, Container Deposit and Comprehensive Recycling Legislation. Finally, Illnois is a TOP state for deaths due to litter/debris motor vehicle collisions: at least 37 across the state die each year in these needless and preventable accidents. These need to change if you want your state to get beyond a Worst national designation for overall state/public properties cleanliness.

Koolking chose to forget to mention:
Illinois ALSO rated a WORST state! for public space cleanliness in the 2011 American State Litter Scorecard (tied with Georgia and Oklahoma). The facts: both Illinois and Indiana are WORST states. Over 37 persons die across Illinois each year in debris/litter-caused motor vehicle accidents. Iowa was only midwest state rated BEST for public space cleanlines from statewide litter/debris abatement indicators.

  • Another snotty, biased Notre Dame comment/article from a Tribune tool. . .how surprising. Idiot.

  • I moved to Chicago from Indiana about ten years ago and have met Dan Quayle. And yet, your list does not offend me. Clean your shit up, Indiana!

  • In reply to VelvetMinxx:

Thanks for the feedback...I'm guessing meeting Mr. Quayle wouldn't help his or Indiana's cause much.

    1. I like your first name.

2.Illinois sharing such...unattractive characteristics with Indiana doesn't absolve the latter from guilt.

    3. I've repeatedly acknowledged 90% of Illinois can be considered a twin to Indiana

    Thanks for your feedback man.

  • I decided about 6 months ago that Indiana is "America's elastic waist band".

  • Then again, I'm from Pennsylvania. Don't even get me started on these people...

  • In reply to MySportsComplex:

My sister moved to western New Jersey, to which I said it was like "da region" (southern Hoosiers' expression for Lake County, Ind.), except they have Wegman's (a high end grocery chain, sort of like Byerly's).

Of course, Illinois merchants show their class by reselling rejected Wegman's products.

Not to confuse the issue, I also lived in Wegman's territory, as well as da Region, and Illinois. The problem in upstate New York is that they think paving a residential street is putting tar on it and covering it with gravel. At least Illinois has an asphalt lobby.

  • In reply to MySportsComplex:

@jack - I was born and raised in Illinois, live in Indiana now, and trust me it sucks just as bad as the list says.
@Killian - I'm just curious how can a student being dead be biased? And I hated Notre Dame before it started killing its own students. Idiot? Killian.

  • In reply to mewapinski:

Oh, that's right Mark. . .you were there and know the whole truth about what happened. Right. Did you read the reports? I did, both the OHSA report and ND's. It was a horrible accident that no one could have predicted. Get a clue. Idiot? You.

"In March, that investigation led OSHA to levy $77,500 in fines against Notre Dame for safety violations related to Sullivan

Outstanding contributions to the list-1 3 and 5 often are all on the same guy....or woman for that matter, and he/she can often be seen at 4.

I was born and raise in Indiana i got marry and move to colorado i do talk with friend Indiana they said elkhart has change lot and now its harder to even live there because its change lot there not like it use be i don't think they should change elkhart at all my friends say now there lot of mexico people live there now thats why lot of thing are very high price there what i think is dum about Indiana is where they say you have have 7 id to get a driver license there watch i thing is dum special if you live there before and born and raise there if you live in other state you should be able to transfaer your license to that other state as long you show proof that u was born and raise there. that why i never want back to my home town yet because on what Indiana is doing to there state as far as liqueur station they need close it on sundays like the use to then we wouldn't have to mandy drunk drivers on the road

gwill always takes these all-important State Rankings (CDC 2009 per 100,000 pop.) into account when comparing US states:

    #31 for Syphillis
    #15 for Gonorrhea
    #24 for HIV/AIDS

    #10 for Syphillis
    #6 for Gonorrhea
    #6 for HIV/AIDS

Seeing that koolking83 will be visiting Indiana, these numbers could/should get adjusted.

  • In reply to gwill:

Unless you're Dwayne Johnson, or live in your mother's basement and own numerous World of Warcraft accounts where you regularly "pwn" shouldn't be referring to yourself in the third person. I wonder which one you are...

  • In reply to mewapinski:

    gwill is Dwayne Johnson.

The Rock says Mark will work hard to improve Illinois's #6 gonorrhea ranking.

However, the Rock says Mark will contribute to Illinois's #10 syphilis ranking (perhaps with koolking83 in Indiana).

gwill must now return to Lauren Hashian's smashable tight phat ass.

  • In reply to mewapinski:

I have been here 23 years and have never met so many two-faced people in my life!

  • In reply to MySportsComplex:

Having grown up in Indiana near the Illinois state line close to Chicago, let me point out a few things:

    1. Notre Dame is mostly populated with the children of Chicago-area residents, not kids from Indiana.
    2. Northwest Indiana is basically part of Chicagoland so anything you say about it applies also to Chicago.
    3. The rest of Indiana is basically no different than downstate Illinois (except that they play better basketball in Indiana).
    4. Your list is idiotic and I'm not sure why I'm wasting my time commenting on it.

  • In reply to mjdff:

I will concede point three and four, thanks for your feedback.

    Be Good

  • In reply to mjdff:

I was about to say that there is no difference between East Chicago and South Chicago (except that East Chicago still has its industry), Gary and Englewood, and Hammond and Hegewisch (the latter of which thinks it is in Indiana).

  • In reply to mjdff:

You missed the most glaring defect about Indiana, Eastern Time, folks there always wake up in the dark. Its like putting Chicago on Eastern time, makes no sense and the sun only rises before 7am 2 months out of the year.

  • I'm from Indiana. I am currently seeking refuge in Ohio while I get my degree, so that I can escape to almost any other state in the Union. Indiana really is the worst.
