The “season of Carr” continues for Northwestern, as it’s senior wide receiver was named a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award. The Biletnikoff goes to the “outstanding college football receiver regardless of position”. Carr is one of ten semifinalists, despite not being on the original watch list when the season started. He was added to the list on September 27th.
Carr is leading the Big Ten in touchdowns, receptions, receptions per game, receiving yards, and yards per game. He is ranked in the top ten nationally in each of those categories except for receptions.
While he is having an outstanding season, Carr is unlikely to be named one of three finalists next week when they are announced. East Carolina’s Zay Jones leads the nation with 139 catches and 1,473 receiving yards. Trent Taylor from Louisiana Tech has 103 receptions, and Carlos Henderson, also from LT, leads college football with 16 touchdowns. Quick side note…did anyone expect Louisiana Tech to have two semifinalists for any national award?
Whether or not he wins the award, Austin Carr has been a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing season for the Wildcats. Even if the team finishes with a winning record and a bowl appearance, the loss to Illinois State will keep the dark cloud over this season.
The three finalists for the Biletnikoff will be announced on November 21st, and the winner on December 8th.
