Pilgrimage to Lake Michigan in Photographs: Day 13

Pilgrimage to Lake Michigan in Photographs: Day 13
January 24, 2014

Today on my trek down to Lake Michigan I thought about taking risks and teamwork. Each day as I step out and turn eastward my mood transitions until almost ‘of a sudden’ I see the blue in the open space ahead. That brings clarity.

Today, ‘the journey is the destination’ came to mind. I held the thought for a moment to study it. Notice its contours. This daily pilgrimage helps me to both be in the moment and also to allow my thoughts to wander while I walk.

Among my wandering thoughts; the conundrum of risk.

There are many approaches to risk. Some of us have a fear of failing, some fear success. Some are kind of addicted to risk-taking and jump from one thing to the next. Most of us I suppose have experienced each of these at times.

In risk there is adventure, and courage, and also teamwork. Support is invaluable to the adventurer.

‘Leap and the net will appear.’ Another aphorism.

People all around me are taking risks large and small. You have to take risks to do anything productive or to grow, and sharing in the experience of that is inspiring. The net appears.

A few weeks ago when I decided to do this daily post, it was a leap of faith. I didn’t question it. I just decided I would begin, and having leapt, this is it. I start out each day and go. It’s a gift. That’s where the journeying being the destination comes into play; and the rewards of spending time with the sublime.

All the breath-like flexibility seemed gone from the lake today. It looked stopped in its tracks. The crackling sounds were disbursed and almost nonexistent.

I could see the thickness in the ice, and the floes of yesterday were frozen in place and layered.

Up close and also afar was tropical blue-green. At my feet it was still. In the distance waves glinted in the light.
