Raising the Flag for Veterans: Iwo Jima Photo a Living Diorama in Milwaukee

I was startled and impressed by a float in Milwaukee’s Veterans Day parade. A living diorama of the famous flag-raising photo made during the battle for Iwo Jima. Bracing cutting winds, six strong souls bravely gave their all to portray the soldiers immortalized in the photograph. I have a particular fascination with this type of transmutation. It seems the photographic image lends itself to visual reinterpretation, transformed into other forms of expression.
