I wish I followed my dream

It’s blogapalooza! What does that mean, you ask? Once a month, ChicagoNow bloggers have one hour to create a post and all must publish at the same time. The topic this month was to write a letter to someone I’ve had a disagreement with. Well, here I go…

How many times have you wanted to do something but were too scared to make that leap of faith? I cannot speak for anyone other than myself, all I know is that this has happened to me more times than I could count on my fingers. One thing I know for certain is that it is a little easier to take that leap of faith now than even a few years ago. I am sure one reason is because I am older and have so many life experiences than when I was young and naive.

There  are a few times in my life that I wish I could turn back the clock and choose a different journey. There is, however, one decision I made when I was younger that I wish I could have changed. I’ve decided to write a letter to myself on why I should have taken that leap of faith. This letter is not something that will make me sad, instead, it is to remind me that I should not be scared of following my dream even if others think it is not the right decision for me.follow your dreams

Dear Young Nancy,

I want to let you know that I forgive you for choosing nursing school over medical school. Please, do not misunderstand me, I have had a great career as a nurse and as a nurse practitioner. I do love what I do, however, it has bothered me all these years that you did not have the courage to follow your dream.

I know times have changed and medicine is not like it used to be— I don’t care, that’s not why I wanted to go into medicine. It was not for the money (although I would have had to pay off my loans), it was because medicine was a passion of mine and I knew I could make a difference in people’s lives. I am happy with the choice I made, but, I wish I followed my dream.

Love,

Mature Nancy

    Nancy Chodash

I am a nurse practitioner who not only treats patients, but has had chronic illnesses including cancer so I understand how frustrating medicine can be. But through all this, I have never lost my sense of humor and my ability to make people laugh. I love to cook, and since becoming gluten-free a year ago, I have recipes for everyone's tastes whether it be healthy, decadent, vegetarian, or gluten-free. My philosophy is all about health, food, laughter and life!
