It's Just Not Summertime Chi Without the Taste of Chicago!

For foodies like me that grew up in the city, you can remember as a child being brought to foodie heaven. The Taste of Chicago was THE summer food festival long before the hundreds of other summer food festivals were a thing. Though “the Taste”, as it’s called locally, has had its shares of ups and downs over the years, it still manages to shine with great food and entertainment. The 39th Annual Taste of Chicago (presented by DoorDash) kicks off TOMORROW Wednesday, July 10, and ends Sunday, July 14th. Here is what you need to know:

  • The Taste is located in Grant Park bordered by Congress on the South, Monroe on the North, Lake Shore Drive on the East, and Michigan Avenue on the West. Admission is free and it is open to the public.
  • The Taste is open from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm Wednesday through Friday, and from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Food and drink are purchased with tickets which can be purchased in advance or at the ticket booths located at the entrance gates. Tickets can be purchased in strips of 14 tickets for $10. Expect to spend about 10-12 tickets for an entree, and 6-8 tickets for a “Taste” sample sized portion. You can purchase tickets in advance at: Taste of Chicago Food and Drink Tickets
  • This years lineup includes 37 new restaurants and food trucks. The food trucks will be situation on the Congress end of the event.
  • Concerts are happening at the Petrillo Band Shell for headlining acts. and on the smaller Goose Island stage, located at the south end of the park (where free performances range include hip-hop, rock, blues, soul and R&B.
    • As of July 1, concert tickets increased to $25 for general admission and $50 for premium seating. Lawn seating is free.
    • The concert schedule for 2019 includes:
      • July 10- Courtney Barnett and Sunflower Bean
      • July 11- Bomba Estéreo and Cultura Profética
      • July 12- De La Soul, Taylor Bennett
      • July 13- Strumbellas, Lovelytheband, Joywave
      • July 14- India.Arie, Meshell Ndegeocello, Bilal

    • There is also the Taste of Chicago Oasis, which is a private area listed as “A prime concert viewing experience in a uniquely designed space complete with private bar, free bottled water, appetizers. and VIP washrooms!  Hours:  W, Th, Fri 3-9pm; Sat & Sun 4-9pm”: You can purchase seating in this area here: Taste Oasis Concert Tickets .
