Church in-person?! 'Get me to the church on time,' 2021

My home church returned to holding services “in person” on June 20, 2021. I woke up on the 19th thinking “There’s just a few more hours, that’s all the time you’ve got!” and recognized it as the introduction to “Get Me to the Church on Time,” from “My Fair Lady.” With that very much in mind, here’s an update on that classic song.

There’s a church service in the morning!

Ding dong, the bells are gonna chime!

What’s time’s the bus?

Just don’t let me fuss,

and get me to the church on time!

I’ve got to be there in the morning,

spruced up and lookin’ in my prime.

How loud it all seems!

How strong it all seems!

Just let me in the church on time.

If I am waiting, tell me what for,

The bus is coming — whoosh me out the door!

For there’s a church service in the morning,

ding dong, the bells are gonna chime!

We’ll all be humming,

Hearts will be thrumming,

We all got to the church on time.

I’ve got to be there in the morning —

hope there won’t be a bloomin’ line!

Some bloke who’s able, lift up the table,

and get me to the church on time!

Starlight is reelin’ home to bed now;

Mornin’ is fillin’ up the sky.

Chicago’s wakin’. Daylight is breakin’.

Good luck, readers,

Good health, I sigh.

I’m not gettin’ married in the mornin’ —

it’s not THAT much a surprise!

It’s a new habit, and I’m glad to have it,

So get me to the church, get me to the church!

For God’s sake, get me to the church on time!

Trying to applaud in-person progress -- FPC a great model for sacred response to cultural and spiritual participation. Me? Mobility captures Sensibility so I appreciate BRC contributions. Missing voices and faces except for streaming views.
These are my ''pay attention'' words. Sixteen months between family visits? Hey, I got real hugs.
Remind me about John Williams -- is that WGN Sundays at 10 pm?

  • In reply to William Bowen:

Thanks, Bill. I'm glad you're staying safe. John Williams has a weekday morning show, 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. He also has "Sunday Standards," standard American songs from Sinatra and company, from 7 to 9 p.m.
