“Open letters” are usually so angry, but you won’t get that from me. This is an open thank-you note from a delighted, devoted follower.
You wouldn’t know me on the street, but I’d probably recognize all of you. It’s not just my good memory; I’ve loved watching and listening to hockey for most of my life.
Thank you for another wonderful season of surprise and joy.
Thank you for reminding me that there is value in consistent effort, and that the longer something goes on, the more important it is to keep trying.
Thank you for doing your best, no matter how much it hurts. What a model for me to do the same.
Thank you for being so open to enjoying delightful results. I love your smiles and your awed looks at the love Chicago shows you.
Thank you for not resting on your laurels, but already thinking of winning again.
Thank you for winning the Stanley Cup — again!
Special thanks to Jonathan Toews. Back when I was starting this blog, I kept reading that you weren’t so fond of being called “Captain Serious.” Well, I’m a serious person myself, so I named my blog Margaret Serious. It’s a reminder to take my writing as seriously as you take playing hockey — and a reminder to try to write as well as you play. I hope I do it justice.
