We’ve already been through our picks for the film categories of the Golden Globes and now its time to turn our attention to TV. It’s also time to laugh long and hard about the decisions made by that funny little group of jokesters known as the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
Mad Men and Game of Thrones completely shut out? No nomination for Anna Gunn? A nomination for Andy Samberg? Oh, HFPA, you’re too much. But while its easy to roll our eyes at some of the omissions, we wouldn’t be doing out part as critics if we didn’t pay some lip service to the actual (mostly) deserving nominees.
Note: As always, when I say “Will Win” I am basing it off the current odds and general buzz and when I say “Should Win” I’m basing it off my own personal and deeply biased opinions.

The year 2013 will henceforth be known as The Year of Breaking Bad. Or at least it should be. This is the last round of awards for Breaking Bad to sweep up before bowing out and spending the rest of eternity at the top of TV history. And if they don’t sweep up these awards the HFPA is even crazier than I suspected and trust me, that is a low bar.
Kyle here. Really what is there to say, but I’ll tread lightly to not hurt the feelings of other shows. Breaking Bad will win.

I love me some Olivia Pope, so please don’t interpret this pick as any kind of slight towards Ms. Washington or Scandal as a whole. But Tatiana’s performance in Orphan Black is truly unprecedented and unparalleled. She played six different characters so effectively that you truly forgot she was only one actress. She deserves a Golden Globe for every character she played, but we’ll start with one.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock or are just typically not fond of water coolers, you know that Orange is the New Black is one of this years most talked about shows. I would hate to see it go completely unrecognized here, so I’m rooting for Taylor Schilling.

Just once I’d like an awards show to honor a show that’s not only critically successful but also wildly commercially successful. But the HFPA isn’t the group to bring that wish to fruition.
I really enjoy all these shows. People have claimed that Modern Family has lost a little of its edge so perhaps this won’t go unnoticed by the HFPA and they’ll give it to Girls. However, my gut is saying The Big Bang Theory.

Probably Fox, but I’m going to have to go with Andy Samberg. Call me crazy, but we definitely have a new hit comedy on our hands with Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Samberg was the right man for the job.

I could probably just copy and paste what I’ve written every other time these two ladies have met on a ballot. Its getting a little tedious to repeatedly point out how much Amy Poehler deserves a Golden Globe and how much Julia Louis-Dreyfus is going to actually win one.
Devin is absolutely right here. Its shocking that Poehler hasn’t won yet, but she is consistantly grouped among some very talented women. In typical fashion, she’ll be honored once Parks and Rec announces their last season – though this didn’t fair well for Tina Fey. I’m going with Lena Dunham.

At the Emmys I bemoaned the fact that a movie was beating out an actual TV miniseries. This bothers me less at the Golden Globes, but I’ll still argue that Top of the Lake deserves a little love. Also, I still haven’t seen Behind the Candelabra.
Top of the Lake does indeed deserve some love. Please check it out on Netflix if you haven’t already. Behind the Candelabra will get the glory on Sunday night, though.

Michael Douglas. He gave one of the best performances of his career in the film that no studio wanted to touch. Go HBO.

Truthfully, I don’t have a lot of feelings about this category, but Vargara is consistently overlooked in favor of Julie Bowen and the HFPA is just the organization to give her some love, whether in the form of a shiny award or a roving hand we’ll have to wait until Sunday to find out.
I’ve only seen Modern Family among this bunch, so I’ll go with Devin here and say Sophia Vargara.
