Lupus is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks its own tissues. Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating. When you combine the two it has horrible results as it’s hard to find relief.
Lupus has the potential of causing permanent damage to internal and external organ systems such as scarring of the skin. It may also cause a butterfly rash across the nose.
There is treatment for both but not a cure. I’ve been a lupus sufferer for many years and experienced the ups and downs of it. Joint and muscle stiffness has become a daily thing. I suffered from having a butterfly rash but thankfully it cleared up on its own.
Unfortunately, hyperhidrosis is very embarrassing. The excessive sweating appears abruptly which makes socializing dreadful. As mentioned, there are treatment options available at the discretion of your doctor.
Lupus, on the other hand, is also a chronic disorder as there is ongoing research to find a cure. Various medications may be used but keeping in contact with your specialist should be first and foremost.
It can become depressing and it’s very important to discuss your feelings with your doctor. They can give you a referral to a therapist after their own heart. It’s important to know that you’re not alone but you have to do your part by keeping the lines of communication open.
