Loyola - Valpo Gameday: Half time update

Gentile Arena

Loyola Ramblers – Valparaiso Crusdaers

1st Half

Valpo held the lead for almost all the half controlling the tempo on both sides of play. The Crusaders are heating up from deep and are 5-11 from three with Jay Harris and Ben Boggs hitting two a each. Boggs also leads all scorers with 11. Jordan Hicks found his touch early providing scoring for Ramblers from all ends : 3 pointer, alley opp dunk,  and a couple jumpers.  Loyola hasn’t  seen much production otherwise from the rest of team. Aside from Hicks’ 9, Gibler and Christian Thomas have each scored four. Averkamp is getting worked by Kevin Van Wijk in the post.

Valparaiso is ice cold from the free throw line, connecting on only 3-7 tries. Unlike their opponent, the Ramblers aren’t seeing three pointers fall, hitting 2 of 8. Averkamp has been a monster of the glass picking up 8 rebounds. Loyola will need some offense from the co-captain in the second half to compliment his tenacious rebounding.

If Gibler and Averkamp heat up don’t count Loyola out. If not, Valpo should continue to cruise past Loyola here at the Gentile Arena. Defensively, the Ramblers need to adjust their zone and guard the perimeter without exposing the post too much. Yes, it’s a lot to ask from the undersized Ramblers but it’s the only hope.
