Ramblers head north to play Canisius; Going for fourth straight win

Loyola has picked up some steam of late winning their past three contests and now look to extend their streak to four against their final non-conference opponent of the year, Canisius College. Canisius is small Jesuit school out in Buffalo, New York also marks the third Jesuit opponent Loyola has faced this year, both of which were Loyola victories. (The first was Fordham, in the Gentile Arena opener and Rockhurst)

A win Thursday juxtaposes Loyola into Horizon League play with a hot win streak as well as immense momentum. After Canisius, Loyola comes home to the Gentile Arena and will see Wright State and Detroit to cap off the calendar year. The Ramblers are 3-1 so far at home, reiterating the positive factor the “Joe” brings.

Rambler Notes
Loyola is as hot as can be with stellar performances coming from the hands of co-captains Ben Averkamp and Walt Gibler. Ben began the season off with a slow start he did not like, so the swing in the right direction for his play has also coincided with Loyola wins. Gibler is coming off a career high 29 points over DePaul as well as fighting through back spasms. Averkamp also notched a career high of 31 and hit a buzzer beater to edge Toledo…..Jordan Hicks is back for Loyola after missing over a year due to injury. Hicks, considered to be the most athletic player on the roster, is slowly starting to regain his game speed and is a crucial member of the team, making him another valuable asset in Porter Moser’s arsenal….Freshman guard Joe Crisman has been sidelined with a hand injury after a great start to the year. The young guard showed leadership as well as pure talent, starting for Loyola when healthy.

Canisius Notes
The Golden Griffins of New York will welcome in fellow Jesuit Loyola. The Jesuit Basketball Spotlight has been successful this year bringing awareness and publicity to the Jesuit schools and their respective athletic programs….2-8 record so far this year coming off an OT victory…Play in the MAAC conference
