Loyola has a nice two game win streak going, picking up their second win in just as many games over Chicago State, 64-49. Having endured a rigorous competition already this season, the Ramblers have now picked up two victories against less powerful opponents and improve to a 3-7 record, 2-1 at the Gentile Arena.
These are the “must win” games for Loyola and Porter Moser made sure his Co-Captains, Ben Averkamp and Walt Gibler led the way.
Averkamp is coming off a game winning buzzer beater against Toledo as well as a career high scoring performance (31 points). Gibler, who missed the thriller against the Rockets, is also coming off a career high scoring game (29 points) against Big East DePaul.
The new personal records emerge at a time when the Ramblers need stellar performances the most and speak for volumes for Ben and Walt’s leadership.
Chicago State (0-11) came out early with full court press and trap defense but was not able to endure the second half. Tired and depleted the Ramblers were able to over power and out score the win-less team easily.
-Freshman forward Christian Thomas contributed 38 minutes with starter Joe Crisman sidelined. Thomas chipped in 8 points and grabbed 8 boards.
-Denzel Brito controlled the game at the point for Loyola dishing out 3 assits and scoring 10.
-Gibler notched a double-double and was second in scoring for the Ramblers with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
-The game high scorer Averkamp also had a double-double (21 points, 10 rebounds).
