I have been studying the process of memory storage and retrieval in a class that I am taking and have been enthralled. Then I watched the movie Bliss that led me to again watch the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Both of these are deeper than just memory, but I could see the impact of having, losing, and changing memories. Since I have such a bad memory, maybe that explains my interest. I still don’t understand why I can’t remember important things, yet I can remember silly trivial things from the past. I also don’t understand why I can remember things for work or a test, but special memories about events in the past or present are spotty. I can forget random things that happen to me even if they are important, and I want to remember them. It doesn’t have to be memories of long ago for me to forget; I can even forget something that happened last week. I can study and learn and recall facts, but memories of people, places and events are a different thing. There are learning strategies that I discovered years ago so maybe I could apply some of those techniques to remember events as well. I do watch old home movies, but then wonder if I remember the real event or just the video of the event? I also journal and write down thoughts and memories. I have my whole life. Maybe it was a way to compensate for the lack of memory formation or retrieval. Are those memories still there and for some reason, I just can’t access them? Maybe I am meant to live in the present and not look at the past. I know life is happening right now, but as more research comes out on memory storage and retrieval, I will be the first in line to learn about it. How about you? What intrigues you and makes you hunger to learn more about it?
All through my day, no matter where I go, or what I do, I am always looking for the good. I try to find the good in people, in the world, in my life or even just in my day.
