How do you discover new books to read?

I have read two books in the last week, The Hate U Give and The Immortalists. They are very different, but they have really caused me to think as well as start conversations with others about them. I am an avid reader and am always looking for books that entertain and challenge me. Here are a couple of ways that I discover books to read:

  • Read about new books in magazines like Entertainment Weekly and People. After reading the brief description in the magazines, I will read a free sample of an e-book or request it from the library. This only works when I have access to these magazines.
  • Browse the library or a bookstore looking for books that catch my eye. The bookstore is usually easier to find books that catch my eye although after donating boxes of books that I purchased and only read once, I try to read more library books.
  • Through friends and family recommendations. My mother and I share the same taste in books, and lately I have been reading many of my fellow blogger books too.
  • Exploring the Goodreads App. In recent months, I have entered the books that I read, and looked for other books that friends on the app as well as the app itself have recommended. I really enjoy rating the books I read, and I love that it keeps track of the books I have read, am reading and want to read since I downloaded the app.
