Brief description: The Hate U Give is about a sixteen year old girl living in a poor area, yet going to school in a more affluent area as she struggles to fit with both groups. When she witnesses a traumatic event, the two worlds collide, and she must decide who she is and what she stands for.

Did the storyline hold my attention? Yes, it was very compelling to see a peek into a world that I don’t know about.  I love to read books that educate me and make me think.

Could I understand what was happening? Yes, the story was well written plus it was informative. She wrote about environments and situations that I have never experienced.

Did I care about at least 1 character? Yes, I cared about a few characters, but especially Starr.

Did I think about or talk about the book when it was over? Yes, I asked a few people at work if they have read it, but so far I haven’t found anyone to discuss it with.

Would I read this book again or recommend it to others? ? I would recommend it to others, but I am not sure if I would read it again. It was interesting, but it was also sad. It makes me angry that people live this way while others have so much.
