As an early childhood education teacher, I was always looking for new and different activities that I could put into my lesson plans to teach the children in my class. I wrote down what areas of learning the activity focused on as well as what materials I would need. This evolved into a binder of these activities that I could refer back to while planning. Soon other teachers were asking if they could look through it too to get ideas.
As an infant teacher, I was frequently asked the question, “What do you teach an infant?” so one day I decided to show them. I realized that I could take this binder full of activities and combine it with my desire to write a book. The parents of the children that I watched were also curious about how I taught their children and ideas for what they, too, could do at home.
Fun4Babies is a book of 52 activities that a parent or teacher can implement with an infant. It contains short descriptions, pictures, items needed, and areas of learning the activity targets. That turned out to be the easy part, writing and publishing the book. Next I was confronted with selling it. I reached out to some local news sources, the area library, and the school that I worked at and soon, I started selling books.
I started a blog, opened some social media accounts, and even enlisted my daughters to help create a YouTube video. It is silly, but it still makes me smile when I watch it. I mean if you can’t have fun and laugh at yourself, you are missing part of the joy.
All through my day, no matter where I go, or what I do, I am always looking for the good. I try to find the good in people, in the world, in my life or even just in my day.
